Christopher Tin is a composer whose career spans all major markets: film, television, video games, advertising, and the record industry. His music is marked by a natural ease of melody, and a strong sense of direction and purpose; his orchestrations are economic yet lush, and layered with counterpoint. He is a native Californian, born of Chinese descent, and educated in England, and his aesthetic sensibilities are a blend of European formalism, Asian transparency and American commercial accessibility.
Christopher is currently working on his debut album, Calling All Dawns: a collection of 12 songs in 12 different languages, all dealing with the universal narrative of life, death, and rebirth. The orchestral world-music project will be recorded with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra at the world-famous Abbey Road Studios, and is scheduled for release in the summer of 2008.
He received his undergraduate education at Stanford University and Oxford University, before winning a Fulbright Scholarship to study at the elite Royal College of Music in London--the alma mater of many of the giants of British composition: Benjamin Britten, Ralph Vaughan-Williams, Gustav Holst and others. There, he earned an MMus with Distinction, graduating with the highest marks in his class, and winning the Horovitz Composition Prize.
His auspicious beginnings were in film, where he composed additional music for major motion pictures such as 20th-Century Fox's X2: X-Men United and Disney's Lilo and Stitch 2. Early TV work included scores for PBS, The History Channel and The Discovery Channel.
His title music for the acclaimed franchise video game Civilization IV was heralded as one of the most spectacular breakout stories in the industry, garnering superlative praise from reviewers and immediately launching him to the A-list of game composers. At the 2007 GANG Awards he came away as the most honored single composer, winning both Best Original Vocal Song - Choral and Rookie Of The Year.
His debut in advertising was equally auspicious, with a celebrated 19-spot international ad campaign for Puma. His aesthetic of 'unexpected beauty' captured the imagination of advertising executives, and led to the launch of his own boutique music house, Tin Works. Since then, Tin Works has expanded to include Verizon, Nokia, Apple, Guess, and Morgan Stanley.
His music has been performed in concert at many of the world's distinguished venues, including Carnegie Hall, the Hammersmith Apollo, the Hollywood Bowl, and the Kennedy Center. His sheet music is published by Alfred Publishing.
