Dubai Fountain Music - 'Baba Yetu'
I was in Dubai earlier this week, visiting the Dubai Fountain. My song 'Baba Yetu' is one of the seven pieces of music used for the choreography.
It was built by WET Design, the same company that built the fountains outside the Bellagio Hotel in Las Vegas. It's the world's largest interactive water feature, and it sits at the foot of the Burj Dubai, the world's tallest skyscraper. Every night from 6:00 PM until 11:00 PM, hundreds of illuminated jets of water dance to a handful of pre-selected songs, with some of the larger jets launching water up to 500 ft high. It's one of the most spectacular things you'll ever see.

They have a short list of seven songs, that they rotate through every 20 to 30 minutes. According to the staff, the two most popular songs are Baba Yetu and the Sarah Brightman/Andrea Bocelli song 'Time To Say Goodbye'. Baba Yetu is the second most played song in their rotation--right after 'Sama Dubai', a special Emirati tribute to His Highness Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum that starts and ends each day's programming.
I'm not usually one to dwell on the life I've lived or the career I've had, but this... this was something special. Standing there by the water's edge, surrounded by hundreds of people, the music blasting on the loudspeakers and feeling the spray wash over me... I couldn't help but be a little proud of myself at that moment.

Great work. I live in Dubai. yesterday I went to Dubai mall and saw the dancing fountain,I returned home tryint to find who is the genius behind that music Baba yetu is the best music played for the fountain.Thank you and keep on the good work.

I've been watching WET's work since 1996, a fan of performing fountains in general. This is the pinnacle of their evolution, a stunning achievement in show design, layout, technology and choreography. At Bellagio, "Con Te Partiro" is the flagship song, so it was natural for them to use it here, alongside many beautiful Arabic songs. But "Baba Yetu" is the standout here. I first heard it on a video of the fountain, got a copy in mp3 form, and have now watched the show perform this in videos from about ten different angles so I can catch everything.
I draw up amateur choreography ideas for many existing shows (not that I actually get to program them) and different songs work best with different types of fountain shows. This song demands choreography, and could only work with something of this scale. The music is just amazing, and the water and light follow it flawlessly, making subtle use of the unique Color Projector system, and then coming right down to a magical end sequence that still finishes with a powerful blast of the record-setting 500' Shooters. Many Bellagio shows have but a build to a big finish, or a build to the middle and then a ramp back down, whereas this song has many big blasts and ethereal, quiet sections that still flow together. I can only imagine that seeing the show in person would be an experience of a lifetime for me, if the Fountains Of Bellagio can move me almost to tears with the sheer scale and might - as this tops it by far. Bravo for the song itself, and very happy to see it in use here!

Congratulations!
I just wanted to pop in and say that I'm a *huge* fan of Baba Yetu... so much so that I'm considering using it in my wedding!
